Chitosan Global: Verified Sources of Premium Quality Chitosan
As a division of Shield Nutraceuticals, Inc., Chitosan Global brings over a decade of nutraceutical and biopolymer experience into a new, specialized platform built exclusively for chitosan and its high-value derivatives. Whether it’s native chitosan, oligosaccharides, or advanced derivatives like quaternary or carboxymethyl chitosan, our chitosan is designed to help industries transition away from outdated, inefficient ingredients toward cleaner, smarter biomaterials that can actually clean up the messes from the last 80 years of industrial activity.
If one were to examine the landscape of chitosan production on a world scale, one would immediately notice that 95% of all chitosan comes from shellfish waste.
There is nothing wrong with turning it into chitosan and using it to clean messes in soil and water.
It is not something suited for human or animal consumption or for personal care products. Yet, that is what many companies are doing.
They are seeking “Chitosan”, not realizing that there are many types and sources, most of which is not reproducible or well characterized.
We have worked with many companies, mostly in China, that do not completely characterize their chitosan. That makes it impossible to use unless third-party analysis is performed. Even then, there is no guarantee that batch-to-batch, the product will be the same.
Without complete characterization and duplicability, products from most of the world’s manufacturers of chitosan can only sell their product for Agricultural purposes, assuming that the product is free from Mercury and other toxic metals.
It’s not a bad thing; it reuses waste.
It’s just not sustainable as it contributes to overfishing.
As time has gone on, the reality of the chitosan opportunity has become apparent. Chitosan can detoxify our world (and us).
To manufacture clean, reproducible chitosan that can be converted into various derivatives for diverse applications, insect chitosan has emerged as the logical solution to meet the worldwide demand.
It’s a green solution in which 100% of the insect is used, contributing to a circular economy in which the life cycle analysis reveals adherence to the highest standards in the industry.
How will insect chitosan meet the world’s demand?
Through advanced farming technology.
Not only is insect chitosan the highest grade possible, but it is also able to be converted into bespoke molecules that can do very specific work in highly technical applications.
There are other sources of chitin, such as mushrooms or mycelium, even clean Arctic krill and shrimp, that can be suitable sources for manufacturing highly pure chitosan, useful in most settings. Contact Us for access to verified sources of the highest quality chitosan in the world.
Here are just a few of the applications we have addressed in the past year:
- We have begun a Pilot study in the mountains of Guatemala, where they get 300 inches of rain annually, to battle Hemelia Vastatrix, Roya Rust, on Coffee plants. We have created two, tuned derivatives: chitosan oligosaccharide-hydrochloride and quaternary chitosan, encapsulated in nanocellulose, making a time-release coating that can last for months, even in heavy rain. It continues to release chitosan slowly, maintaining its killing power while the plant continues to function normally. It is the first product of its type, using exotic, tuneable coatings to provide time-released chitosan treatments against new and persistent pathogens across the agricultural spectrum.
- We are designing a pilot to eradicate fruit flies with a special D-Quaternary chitosan plus Antimicrobial Peptides, also from the Black Soldier Fly. These two compounds can kill without needing to use less efficient chemicals, to which flies are building resistance.
- We have designed a pilot to treat Mastitis in dairy cows safely and naturally with Trimethyl Chitosan and Melanin, two of nature’s most powerful antimicrobial substances, both derived from the Black Soldier Fly.
- We have created a solution for treating several pathogens at once in the banana industry. Through an entourage effect of three different tuned derivatives of chitosan, the cell wall of each pathogen is breached by the specific derivative that is capable of achieving that, in conjunction with antimicrobial peptides and the additional “pore-penetrating” Mechanism of Action that they bring to the party.
- We are creating flocculation solutions for wastewater treatment, flocculation of beer, wine, whiskey, and drinking water.
- We have created a solution for treating palm rot that is seriously affecting the palm oil industry.
These are just some recent examples of the kinds of things we are into over here at Chitosan Global.
